Yes beagles do eat everything!

As I was showering one day, I left my dogs on my bed while they continued to sleep. Walking out of the bathroom, I heard this buzzing noise. It sounded like it was coming from underneath the covers in my bedroom. Well it turns out it was, those dogs had eaten my cell phone! They each had a half of my flip phone. I was pretty mad this was the only phone I had and now I had to buy another and cell phones are not cheap. It was my fault for leaving my cell phone there, but I made them go in their crates for a while until I felt better and could laugh about it.

Now I am very careful and put them in their crates while I shower. After having to buy another cell phone and an $80 dollar laptop charger. Oh and they also ate a tube of tooth paste once, but I'll save that for another post. The moral of the story, yes beagles do eat everything!

Jakes Story

I was not looking to adopt a dog at all, but I did miss Smokie (my parents black lab) so I started volunteering at the local animal shelter walking dogs. And there I met, Buddy. He had sat in the shelter for almost two months and was there the longest of any other dogs, so he was very urgent and the first on the list to be euthanized. I thought he's such a cute dog, how can anyone not want him? I kept going back to the shelter regularly and would walk Buddy first. While I would walk other dogs he would sit outside in the fence and just watch and howl. He really liked me and didn't want me to walk those other dogs I guess!
As Jakes time was becoming more urgent, I fell in complete love with this dog. I cried and cried. My parents said they'd take him but I had to find a place that allowed dogs as soon as possible. It was really inconvenient for them because Smokie hates other dogs in our yard! For Valentines Day, Brett actually gave me the best gift ever. He asked our landlord if we could keep Jake, and she said yeah, since we were such good tenants. Jake wasn't going to die! I was so happy! I went out and bought him a kennel and $50 worth of dog toys, he didn't play with at all that first year. At the shelter, I really didn't like his name Buddy, so I asked the shelter why his name was Buddy? And they said it's just a name they gave him, if I had a better name they would rename him that. I said, "I like Jake", and he's been Jake ever since. There will be lots of crazy Jake stories in this blog, so please stay tuned. Here are some pics I took of Jake today for the blog. I know he needs his nails cut, we'll be doing that this weekend. :) Thanks for reading!

Ladies First, Fancy's Story.

I had been looking for another dog to keep Jake company because of his barking, and I came upon Fancy. I was adamant that I did not want another beagle. As much as I loved Jake, his constant barking (well howling) drove me crazy. We had only lived in an apartment at the time, and he barked all the time when we left him alone. I had been in contact with a lady that worked at the shelter and she kept telling me about this sweet beagle girl they had at the shelter named Autumn. She was adopted for a week but it didn't work out. After a failed adoption, it was only then I begun to even think about getting another beagle. Jake had contracted kennel cough and the vet said absolutely no dogs for at least 3 weeks! The lab mix puppy I wanted got adopted right away, so I looked at so many other dogs, but my thoughts always came back around to "Autumn."

I convinced Brett (my fiance) to take the two hour drive to meet "Autumn". "Autumn" was so sweet and so petite! She always wore sweaters, because it was a very small shelter with little heat. There were probably 6 or so dogs there at the time waiting for homes, it was heartbreaking. She didn't try to beat up Jake which was a good sign, she was a total lover! We paid the $75 shelter fee right then and brought her home. Maybe it was the sweaters she always wore but Brett insisted we rename her Fancy before we even got to the shelter. On the way home, on Country Radio, the song Fancy by Reba played and we were sold. It' was a sign her name was meant to be Fancy. I'm happy to report in the 2+ years that we have been blessed having Fancy in our lives, she has only barked (howled) maybe three times! I mean beagles baying are like music to my ears but I worry for those around me living in the city. There will be lots more Fancy stories in this blog. Below are some pictures I took today of Fancy for this blog. Thank-you for reading, Jake's story coming tomorrow. :)

Introducing Jake and Fancy

This is Jake, he was adopted February 14th, 2006 from a local animal shelter. He's wild and crazy, but a total sweetheart. He loves dog food, people, toys, and more food. Jake howls every morning (sometimes at 5:30 a.m.) to let us know he's hungry! Jake is eight now, and I've enjoyed every minute of the last three years that he has been in my life. I feel very blessed to have two great dogs!

This is the Princess, Fancy, and she was rescued from an animal shelter two hours away February 16th, 2007. She's sweet, kind and cuddly. Unlike Jake, she's very quiet, and you have to love a quiet beagle! Fancy's favorite place to be is on my bed, with her head on my pillow! I'm afraid Fancy has been abused in the past, so we are trying to give her the very best home life possible. She brings a lot of joy to my life. Oh and she is a beagle so her greatest love is also food.
